There are many beliefs about coffee that may or may not be true. Let's dive in and talk about how to keep your coffee fresh. Many of you watched grandma and grandpa keep their coffee in the freezer until they are ready to use it. Do not do this! Coffee is quite content hanging out at room temperature. Coffee is also very porous and freezing and thawing can create condensation which will absorb into your coffee causing it to mold or mildew.
Coffee is also quite shy and likes to hide in the dark and out of sight! Keeping it in an air tight container or it's original sealed package is the best thing you can do for your coffee. Exposure to air can make your coffee stale prematurely and degrade its flavor rapidly.
Lastly, whole bean coffee stays fresh much longer than pre-ground coffee. Once coffee is ground and exposed to the air it will start to oxidize causing flavor degradation.
